The activity of the Barga Jazz club is very important: it carries out concerts and jam sessions throughout the year, with its climax in the second half of August with the Barga Jazz Festival, internationally well known.

Not less important, in July, the Opera Barga festival, opera and classical music, which takes place since the 60’s. Feature of this festival, as well as high level performance of ancient and classical music, is the discovery of unknown works, often non-represented for centuries.
In the last years, the landscape of Barga festival is enriched, in September by the Festival Bel Canto in Barga (opera) and the School of Traditional Scottish Music: the connection between Barga and Scotland is deeply felt and is due to emigration from Barga in the last century.
For the Feast of Piazzette, in the second half of July, gastronomy and music invade the small squares of the old town.
Practically the whole valley is mobilized on December 23 for the Living Nativity: more than two hundred amateur actors faithfully reconstruct the ancient crafts (the grinder, the washerwomen, the blacksmiths, the scribes, the millers, the charcoal-burners …) and the way of life of yesteryear, as well, of course, the Nativity.
Befana comes from Barga, on January 5-6, closes the Christmas season: a feast for the children in the afternoon and for everyone else in the evening with songs, dances and tastings.
Other events are the festival of the Fish and Chips, in August, the Chestnut Feast , late October-early November, the Antiques Market, every second Sunday of the month, the Feast of San Rocco, on 15 and 16 August, with a market of hundreds of stalls.
